Form 3520 is the official Queensland Government form that records the transfer of ownership for registered motor vehicles. This vehicle transfer document ensures the new owner (acquirer) becomes the registered operator while releasing the previous owner (disposer) from any future liabilities, fines, or infringements related to the vehicle.
You must lodge the completed form with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) within 14 days of acquiring or selling a vehicle. Late submissions may result in penalties or fines.
Submitting Form 3520 ensures the legal transfer of registration, preventing the seller from being liable for future fines or infringements. It also protects the buyer by providing evidence of legal ownership and ensures compliance with Queensland vehicle registration laws.
Use the Zendocs template to fill out the vehicle transfer form quickly. Note that while the form can be completed digitally, final lodgment is required through the Queensland government portal or in person:
The Department of Transport and Main Roads generally processes transfers within 5–10 business days. Transfers cannot proceed if the vehicle is under a Number Plate Confiscation Notice or has outstanding fines.
