Form 2290 is used to report and pay the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) for trucks and other vehicles operating on public highways with a taxable weight of 55,000 pounds or more.
Form 2290 must be filed annually by the last day of the month following the month the vehicle is first used on public highways during the tax period (July 1 - June 30).
Schedule 1, stamped by the IRS, is returned after filing and serves as proof of payment required for registration.
