Form 2705-SD is the French estate declaration. It reports the deceased's identity and family situation, the assets and debts of the estate, the heirs and legatees and their shares, and it is the basis for calculating inheritance tax.
The declaration is required if you accept the estate and are a beneficiary. Children, the surviving spouse or civil partner are exempt if the gross estate is below 50,000 euros and the deceased made no undeclared gifts. For other beneficiaries the limit is 3,000 euros.
The deceased's identity and last address, family situation, details of the heirs and legatees, a list of assets and debts, and supporting documents such as a will or family records. The form has fields for the details of the notary handling the estate, if there is one.
The deadline is 6 months from the death if it occurred in mainland France and 12 months if it occurred abroad, with specific rules for overseas departments and certain properties. Late filing leads to interest of 0.20% per month after 6 months, plus a 10% surcharge after 12 months. File two signed copies at the property registration office of the deceased's last home.
