The DS700 is the Carer’s Allowance claim form issued by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Carer’s Allowance is a UK benefit for people who provide regular and substantial care to a disabled person. Many people still know this form by its older name, the CA1.
You may be able to claim if:
The DS700 is how you make a paper claim for Carer’s Allowance. The DWP uses your answers to check that you and the person you care for meet the conditions, and to work out when your payments should start. Claiming can also affect other benefits, both yours and those of the person you care for, so it is worth reading the notes that come with the form before you send it. You can also claim online at gov.uk/carers-allowance, which is usually the quickest way.
Send the form as soon as you start meeting the conditions, because the start of your claim depends on when the DWP receives it. In some cases you can ask for your claim to be backdated, but this has strict time limits. The DWP normally replies within about 6 weeks, although this can take longer at busy times of the year.
Post the completed form, with your supporting documents, to: Carer’s Allowance Unit, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton, WV98 2AB. If you would rather not use post, you can claim online through gov.uk/carers-allowance. If you have trouble filling in the form, contact the DWP before sending it, as errors and missing documents can delay your claim.
