Form 8300 is a federally required filing used to report large cash payments. When a business receives more than $10,000 in cash (either in one payment or across multiple related payments within 12 months), the transaction must be reported to the IRS and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
This rule applies to cash, cashier’s checks, bank drafts, traveler’s checks, and money orders—when they total over $10,000.
